Strike

Strike
We often hear the word strike. When the workers of the factories or any institutions stop working that is called strike. It is the temporary suspension of work. The workers launch strike to fulfill their demands. They launch strike when their demands are not fulfilled by dialogue. It has been common all over the world.
The strike has a very short history. It originated in England the 20th century. As a result of industrial revolution in England, any industries were set up. Thousands of workers were employed. The factory owners made the workers work hard but they were poorly paid. The owners earned huge amount of money from the labor of the workers. But the economic condition of the workers was very bad. They were badly treated. The workers could not tolerate this. They began to be combined. They knew the value of unity. They realized that solitary voice is ignored but the united voice is accepted. They thus formed their union. AS a result of their combined force, they were able to fulfill their demands. In Nepal, the strike first took place in Biratnagar Jute mill during Rana Regime. Now days, it has been common in Nepal. There are student’s strikes, teacher strike, strikes in the corporation like banks. The government employees have formed their unions. They launch strike to fulfill their demands.
The causes of strikes are many. There is always a conflict between the employer and employee in one point. The employer wants to decrease the facilities of the employee but the employee wants to get better facilities.
The employees want better treatment from the employers. The employees thus raise their choice for better facilities and well treatment from the employers. In addition, the employees want impartial treatment with the employers. They cannot tolerate if the employers are partial. So they launch the strike for equal treatment and transparency in their evaluation. In Nepal, even the political parties encourage the workers for strikes.
The strikes have advantages as well as disadvantages. The employees can be benefitted by getting more facilities. The employers cannot be cruel to them. The employees are equally treated. Their dignity is maintained. They are enthusiastic to work. As a result, the production is increased. The institution can be prosperous. It has some disadvantages too. The production is affected. The progress of the country is hampered. There is individual unrest. Tension is created. The workers have the problem to earn their livelihood. They cannot even eat. If the strike fails, the workers cannot get wages. Some workers may even lose their jobs. The effect of the strike goes to the public also. Due to the decrease in production, they have to suffer by not getting their daily requirements. If the strike succeeds, the employers have to pay the wages of the workers. Thus they are affected.
The strikes have been a common problem in the world. In Nepal, not only the mill workers but also the students, teachers and employees of corporation also launch the strike. They are able to fulfill their demands from strikes. The strike is the ultimate way of fulfilling the demands. It is not good to go on strike if the demands can fulfill by dialogue.
